HUNDREDS attended the People in the Park event in Queen Elizabeth Gardens over the weekend.

Salisbury Transition City (STC) held the event in conjunction with the city council and Wiltshire Creative on Saturday, and was described as "a community celebration that fostered hope for the future".

STC said: "More than 20 organisations showed community life, even in this difficult and strange year, is alive and flourishing and providing immense social support and encouragement in our city.

"Arranging People in the Park was a fun way of giving big thank you to everyone that has stepped up to help their communities pull through the last few months, whether by individual actions, community initiatives, or the work of the many great organizations active in and around our city".

Visitors were treated on the event stage to live music, poetry, talks, entertainment for children and adults and even included some moments of peace and concentration provided by a Yoga teacher.

STC added: "From Wiltshire Creative youth theatre, local WI’s, groups helping those in need, such as Pantry Partnership, environmental and wildlife organisations, local garden initiatives and many other special interest organisations that all contribute to make living in Salisbury such a unique and pleasant experience.

"For those wanting to stretch their creativity the ‘Imagination tent’ showed videos on how local residents envisaged the future of Salisbury and gave people the opportunity to voice and record their own thoughts on what they hoped to see in Salisbury by the year 2030."

Salisbury City leader Jeremy Nettle also spoke at the event on the need for people to work together to help meet the present challenges and how organisations, such as those at the event, could achieve so much more by joint effort.

Cllr Nettle added that he felt "greatly encouraged by what he had seen".

Sarah Prinsloo, chairman of STC said: "It was massively encouraging to see so many people who want to get involved in our movement to create a better future for Salisbury".
