RESIDENTS have been warned about scammers claiming to be offering covid-related support to over-50s in Wimborne.
Calls have been made by someone claiming to be from the Wimborne & District Community Association, which is the charity which manages and maintains the Allendale Centre.
Now the association has moved to distance itself from the calls.
In a post on the Wimborne Minster Town Council Facebook page, a spokesman said: "This caller is claiming to be offering Covid-19 related support to 50-90 year olds in the area and is asking if they can send someone around with a list of helpful contact numbers for a cost of £1. When the caller was asked for a contact number he hung up.
"Please be aware that this call is absolutely nothing to do with either the Wimborne & District Community Association or the Allendale Community Centre."
The intention of the caller is not known but reports have been made to police and the Action Fraud team.
