A MAN has appeared in court charged with murder after the death of a man involved in an incident outside Avenue Road car park in Bournemouth.

Stephen Jeffries suffered serious head injuries in an alleged assault on Sunday. He died in hospital two days later.

Carl Stuart Woolley, aged 32, of no fixed address, is accused of murdering Mr Jefferies and he appeared at Poole magistrates’ court yesterday.

Dorset Police reported that at around 10pm on September 13, officers received a report of an assault at the entrance to Avenue Road car park at the junction of Avenue Road and Norwich Avenue.

Local man Mr Jeffries, aged 59, sustained a serious head injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. He died in hospital on Tuesday. His next of kin has been informed and the coroner has been notified.

Woolley did not enter a plea to the charge against him when he appeared at Poole Magistrates’ Court for a preliminary hearing.

The defendant was remanded into custody and he is next due to appear at Winchester Crown Court tomorrow.

In a statement before yesterday’s hearing, Detective Chief Inspector Jez Noyce, of the Major Crime Investigation Team (MCIT), said: “Our thoughts are with the family of Stephen Jeffries and a detailed investigation is underway to establish what happened on the night of the incident.

“I am appealing to anyone who was in the area and may have important information to assist my investigation to please get in touch.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who was driving in the area and has dashcam fitted to their vehicle to please check it for any relevant footage.”
