An application to convert the former Chancery House Day Centre in Bridport into ten flats has been submitted for planning.

It asks for changes to the redundant Chancery Lane building to create ten one-bed flats.

The application for the 325 square metre site comes from David Partridge from West Street, Bridport. It shows no spaces for car parking but allows for ten cycle spaces.

Drawings submitted with the application show the external views of the site remaining much as they are now.

The centre closed in the spring 2018 having served the town’s elderly community since 1963. It was said at the time that a falling number of clients, rising costs and reducing income were the reasons for the decision.

At its busiest the centre had its own resident hairdresser and was able to offer visitors meals and entertainment along with basic health care.

Eight staff were made redundant when the closure took place.

Comments on the application can be made to Dorset Council via its website.
