FREE permits that will allow some vehicles to enter People Friendly Salisbury’s Low Traffic Zone (LTZ) are available from today (Wednesday, October 14).
The consultation period has also now opened for the Experimental Traffic Road order.
The scheme will see pedestrians and cyclists prioritised in several city centre streets as a result of restricting through traffic movements.
Some vehicles will not require a permit, including emergency vehicles, buses and coaches, taxis and bicycles.
Residents and commercial vehicles that are loading and unloading, plus Blue Badge holders, can also access the zone in motor vehicles, including motorcycles, but they will need to apply for a free permit. Vehicles over 7.5t are not able to access the LTZ between 10am and 4pm, and outside of these times they will also need a free permit.
The scheme starts on Wednesday, October 21, and any residents, businesses and Blue Badge holders that wish to access the LTZ in a motor vehicle on that date will need to apply for a free permit before then.
To apply for a free access permit for the LTZ, go to Want to park Wiltshire before Wednesday, October 21, when the LTZ will come into force.
People can also apply after this date and throughout the 18 months of the scheme, but if you want to have access from October 21 onwards, you will need to apply beforehand.
Unauthorised vehicles that enter the LTZ will be issued with a Penalty Charge Notice.
Free residents’ and Blue Badge holders’ permits will be valid for one year from point of issue; free loading/unloading permits will be valid for one month.
As Blue Badges are attached to a person and not a vehicle, when registering for a permit, Blue Badge holders can add the registration numbers for two vehicles they may use, and if they then wish use another vehicle, they can easily change the vehicle details on the online permit system.
