South Yorkshire will become the latest area in England to face a Tier 3 local lockdown.

What is happening in South Yorkshire?

Sheffield City Region mayor, Dan Jarvis, confirmed on Wednesday morning (October 21) that he had agreed with the Government new restrictions would come into effect for 1.4 million people in Barnsley, Doncaster, Rotherham and Sheffield on Saturday morning (October 24).

New figures released on Tuesday (October 20) show the spread of coronavirus increased drastically in the last seven days in Barnsley.

The figures cover the seven day period up to October 16.
