A FINE has been issued to a person whose waste was found dumped in the New Forest.

New Forest District Council says a Bournemouth resident had paid someone to take away a large amount of waste from house renovations at the end of August.

However, the people they paid then dumped it at Rockford Common. The origin of the waste was traced after a name and address was found among the waste.

A council spokesperson on Facebook said: “Fly tips are expensive to clear up, take staff away from other duties, are unsightly, and damaging to the local environment and wildlife. We found a name and address amongst the waste and the resident has just been fined £300 under a duty of care (the maximum we are permitted to fine).

“We continue to investigate to try and identify the people who dumped the waste, but they were paid in cash, and no receipt was given nor a company name.”

The district council is warning residents to ensure they check the person taking their waste has got a waste carrier license.

The council spokesperson added: “If you are paying someone to take away your rubbish you must check their waste carrier license and get a receipt. If your rubbish ends up fly-tipped you can be fined.”
