SALISBURY’S unbeaten start to the season continued with an emphatic 6-1 win away at Dorchester Town.
The result puts the Whites third in the Southern League, with four wins and two draws from their six games so far this season.
It was an impressive performance against a Magpies side who, despite being just outside the relegation zone, had recently beaten high-flying Tiverton at home.
The excellent Harry Baker, who had replaced Dan Fitchett in Salisbury’s starting line-up, opened the scoring for the visitors after just 10 minutes. The chance after some excellent work from Brooks to dispossess the Magpies defender just outside his own box. He then laid it off for Baker who calmly slotted it into the bottom corner – the keeper got a hand to it but it wasn’t enough.
The home side’s only goal of the afternoon came just before the half hour mark through a penalty kick, with Salisbury’s new signing Alexis Andre Jnr bringing down Ngoy, who stepped up and converted the spot kick.
The Magpies were then on top, almost for the remainder of the half, before right on the stroke of half time, Baker got his and Salisbury’s second, after a cross on the right from Davis. An emphatic finish from Baker, blasted into the corner.
The Whites then came flying out of the blocks in the second half, nearly scoring within the first minute.
The first goal came after just four minutes. A corner resulted in a goal mouth scramble, and Jack Ball was alert to the loose ball and hammered the ball into the roof of the net for his first goal of the season.
On 65 minutes, goal four came, and it was another scrappy goal – this time another corner and a header was well saved by the keeper. Another goal mouth scramble, but the ball eventually found its way over the line, with Kennedy claiming.
An incredibly harsh penalty was awarded to Salisbury after 78 minutes, with Dorchester’s number 8, Burns, kicking the ball into his own hand, and being penalised for hand ball. Ollie Knowles stepped up and made no mistake.
Into added time, and the Dorchester keeper cleared out substitute Covil just outside the box – escaping a card. Benson stepped up and sent a hard, powerful shot fizzing towards the bottom right hand corner. The keeper couldn’t keep it out, and Brooks came charging in to cap off an almost perfect afternoon for the Whites.
They host Weston-super-Mare at the Ray Mac on Tuesday night.
Laverstock and Ford 4-0 East Cowes Victoria
Lavvy continued their unbeaten start to the league campaign with a comprehensive 4-0 romp at a wet and windy Dell on Saturday.
Looking comfortable from the off despite the conditions worsening throughout the first half Lavvy cantered into a lead on 13 minutes, Sykes linking up with Jake Rawkins who smashed home the opener in clinical fashion.
Rawkins had a chance to double his tally from the spot on 30, after picking himself up from being upended in the box his penalty was well saved by the East Cowes custodian. However the Dell boys didn't have long to wait for their side's second, 3 minutes later Chae Sykes tucked his effort home. On 41 minutes things went from bad to worse for the visitors when Lovegrove's cross was met by Jackson who teed up Russ Jones to smash home a half volley to cap a dominant first half for the Bulldogs.
Coming out in the second half, Lavvy kept their visitors at bay despite the conditions worsening all the time their home goal was never in threat. Russ Jones capped a comfortable second half show when Bourner played him through and he scored with ease. Matthews almost got his second in two games but his effort was ruled marginally offside.
In the end Lavvy got through this one unscathed and picked up another valuable three points.
Next up, Lavvy host Fawley in the league next Saturday afternoon at home.
Bemerton Heath Harlequins vs Ringwood Town
Abandoned after 77 minutes, with Ringwood 1-0 up.
The Harlequins now host United States Portsmouth on Tuesday night in the league, 7.45pm kick off.
Downton 2-3 Whitchurch United
Goals from Palmer and Smith were not enough for the home side, who remain in the bottom three with just one win so far this season, and will be hoping they turn a corner soon.
The Robins host Ringwood Town on Tuesday night, 7.45pm kick off.
Sydenhams League Cup 2nd round
Amesbury Town 3-0 Horndean
Goals from Boothe, Allman, and Sutherden secured the win for Amesbury against a young Horndean side.
They now play Hamworthy United in the league away on Tuesday night, 7.30pm kick off.
