5 coronavirus updates for Salisbury and Wiltshire

A spokesperson from Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust said the number of Covid positive patients has gone from two to six in one week, with the severity of the condition varying from patient to patient.

As members of the public are urged to "take the virus seriously" - here are five updates on the spread of Covid-19 across Salisbury and Wiltshire:

1. As of Sunday October 25, 91 confirmed cases have been reported in the Wiltshire Council area in the past 24-hour period. It is the highest single day rise since the start of the pandemic.

It brings the total number of confirmed cases since the pandemic began to 2,729.

2. Almost all areas in Salisbury have between 3 and 10 coronavirus cases and a rate of new cases which stands between 51 and 100 per 100,000.

3. In the week to October 18, 338 new cases were reported in the Wiltshire Council area. In the week to October 11, the number of new cases was 269.

The rate of new cases went up from 53.8 to 67.6 as a result.

4. The number of people to have died at Salisbury District Hospital after testing positive for Covid-19 has risen to 57 after a woman in her 80s passed away on October 11.

The hospital says she had underlying health conditions. It is the first coronavirus-related death since June.

5. The latest R number for the South West is estimated at 1.3 to 1.6 with a daily infection growth rate range of +5% to +9%. This according to the government's coronavirus dashboard.
