The areas in and around Salisbury with the highest rates of new coronavirus cases have been revealed.

According to a map on the government's coronavirus dashboard, which breaks down positive cases per Middle Super Output Areas (MSOAs) - areas with a population of around 7,200, the areas with the highest rates are:

  • East Harnham (6 cases, rolling rate of 100.6 per 100,000)
  • Whaddon, Whiteparish & Winterslow (9 cases, rolling rate of 113.3 per 100,000)
  • Durrington & Bulford (8 cases, rolling rate of 129.3 per 100,000)
  • Over Wallop & Shipton Bellinger (11 cases, rolling rate of 151.6 per 100,000)

The data refers to the seven–day rolling rate of new cases by specimen date ending on October 21.

The areas listed are highlighted in blue, the colour used to identify places with rates between 101 and 200.

However, the majority of places in the city have rates below 100 and are therefore shown in shades of green, the colour used for areas with the lowest rates.

Salisbury District Hospital has warned members of the public to take the virus seriously amid a rising number of patients infected with Covid-19.

While numbers might be lower than in other areas, the public are being reminded not to underestimate the impact of the virus on people's health.
