A man who was found on the railway tracks in Salisbury has been rescued.

A spokesperson from Network Rail confirmed emergency services were alerted by a train driver earlier this morning.

The incident took place by the Fisherton Tunnel.

The man in question was apprehended by police shortly after 9.40am.

A spokesperson from the British Transport Police said: "Officers were called to the line in Salisbury at 6.56am this morning following concern for the welfare of a man. Paramedics also attended and he has now been taken to a place of safety."

Train services have now resumed but disruption is expected until 11am.
