A HAMPSHIRE town centre could be transformed to create new shops and homes.
The former Eastleigh post office could be knocked down to make way for 28 new homes and shopping space.
The old post office and sorting buildings just off the High Street would be replaced with a four-storey and six-storey building behind it.
On the ground floor of each structure there would be business or retail space and above would be used for living.
Between the two blocks of flats, there would be a public green space.
Based on the plans submitted by Eastleigh Borough Council there would be eight one-bedroom flats and ten two-bedroom flats in the six-storey building.
Meanwhile, in the smaller development, there would be four single-bedroom homes and six two-bedroom homes - all of which would be affordable.
Despite having no parking facilities, there would be space to store 40 bikes.
The council bought the plot in December 2018 with a view to positively contributing to the regeneration of the High Street and wider town centre, according to planning documents.
Furthermore, it is hoped the scheme would attract customers to the existing shopping centre
A decision to greenlight the plans will be made by the local area committee with the consultation period ending on December 18.
Submitted on October 28 and at the time of writing, there are no objections.
