A man has been disqualified from driving after being found with three bags of cannabis in his car.

Michael Hollingsworth, 46, of Saren Street, Amesbury, pleaded guilty to driving a vehicle with a proportion of a specified controlled drug above the specified limit and possession of cannabis at Salisbury Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday November 11.

The offences relate to a routine vehicle stop on Ford Lane, Ford, Salisbury, on May 1.

During the search of the vehicle, a Tesco carrier bag containing three bags of cannabis were found.

Hollingsworth was arrested and taken to Melksham Police Station where a blood test result showed he had cannabis in his system.

He was disqualified from driving for 14 months, fined £200 and made to pay a victim surcharge and costs.

PC Jamie Boyland said: “Driving under the influence of drugs is reckless and poses a big danger to themselves and other road users.

“It is one of the main causes of deaths on our roads and I hope the ban imposed will give the driver time to reflect on the poor decisions made.

“We are in the middle of a proactive campaign to reduce the number of seriously injured and fatal collisions on our roads and hope this sentence will act as a reminder that this behaviour and endangering other road users will not be tolerated.”

Anyone who suspects someone is driving under the influence should call 999 - in an emergency - or 101.
