A man is in a critical condition after falling from a height on the M1.
More than six miles of the M1 southbound, between Junction 4 (near Elstree) and Junction 1 (near Brent Cross), was closed this afternoon (November 23) as air ambulance and police attended the emergency.
Met Police said it was called shortly before 2pm to reports of a man injured after falling from a height area the Hendon area in London.
Police, London Ambulance Service and London's Air Ambulance attended the scene.
The man, believed to be in his 60s, was taken to hospital by road ambulance and he remains in a critical condition, police said.
Police enquiries continue.
Traffic in the southbound carriageway was diverted this afternoon. The northbound carriageway between Junction 1 and 2 was initially closed, but was reopened by 3.20pm.
There was minimal traffic congestion due to the diversion - although bumper-to-bumper traffic was seen just before the road closure from Junction 4 at around 4pm.
The road was reopened by 5pm, with traffic returning to normal.
