A NINE-YEAR-OLD boy is cycling 100 kilometres to raise money in memory of a pupil at his school who sadly passed away.

Archie Burt, from Moreton, decided to do a massive fundraising challenge to keep fit during lockdown as he was missing out on his football, rugby and boxing classes.

His family set up a bike in their garden and he decided to cycle 100km for charity, setting himself a target of £100 to raise.

He wanted the money to go to the Lexi May Trust. Lexi May was a pupil at St Mary and St Joseph's Catholic Primary School in Wool - where Archie also goes to school. She was diagnosed with a brain tumour when she was just seven years old and sadly passed away after a brave fight at the age of eight.

The charity is running a Christmas box appeal, sending out gifts to families with children who are affected by terminal illnesses or life limiting conditions throughout Dorset.

Archie has already smashed his £100 target and has managed to raise more than £700 so far. He's hoping to get to £1,000 before he finishes his challenge.

Archie said: "It's so incredible that people have given this money. Thank you so so much.

"I want the money to be for those who might not make it to Christmas. They might have an early present.

"If you can spare a pound, please help."

Hayley, Archie's mum, said: "We are really proud of him and so grateful for everyone's support. He started riding the bike because he was missing out on his rugby, football and boxing so just to keep fit really, but then he said he wanted to raise the money for Lexi and we helped him set up a fundraising page.

"People have been so kind and generous during this time of uncertainty. It's such a boost. The kindness shown by family, friends and local businesses in these difficult times has been incredible and Archie is truly touched as am I and Archies father.

"The charity is absolutely amazing and I hope it makes a big difference."
