*UPDATE (9pm)* The A36 has now reopened in both directions.

PART of the A36 had been closed following a serious crash between a lorry and car.

At around midday today, December 5, the incident took place close to Pepperbox Hill.

Emergency services were at the scene and the road was closed in both directions.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police had urged drivers to avoid the area.

During the incident they said: "We’ve closed the A36 in both directions following a serious crash.

"The incident, involving a lorry and a car, took place just after midday today, close to Pepperbox Hill.

"All emergency services are currently at the scene and the road is closed in both directions at the location.

"The road will remain closed for several hours so we would ask all motorists to avoid the area."

The crash caused congestion along Southampton Road, with motorists taking to Facebook to voice their frustrations and concern.

Anyone who witnessed the crash should call police on 101 and quote log 111 of today.
