A COMMUNITY football club has donated more than £1,700 to the Salisbury Foodbank and Salisbury Women's Refuge.

The money has come from club subs for Salisbury Rovers FC. Rovers, Wiltshire FA’s Club of the Year in 2018 and 2019, runs free football programmes in areas of relative disadvantage in the city. A parent suggested donating the monthly subscriptions to the food bank during lockdown, and they donated in excess of £1,700 worth of food and other items, including Christmas hamper goodies, to the Salisbury Foodbank, as well as a donation to the Women's Refuge.

Club Secretary, Debbie Sayers, said: “Our club has always been committed to promoting the essential values of football, a sport born out of our communities. So, our parents were quick to identify ways of helping others. We remain committed to supporting those in need and we hope we can encourage other clubs and groups in our community to do the same. This is the very spirit of football.”
