A fundraiser has been set up to build a memorial for the mother and daughter who were murdered in their home in Salisbury.

A neighbour of Aneta, 40, and Nikoleta Zdun, 18, set up a JustGiving page as a tribute to the pair who were brutally killed by their husband and father on the afternoon of June 1.

Cameron Pratt, who lives opposite the home on Wessex Road, said: “I’d been a neighbour with them for about three years. They always kept themselves to themselves but they always said hello when we saw them and we saw them leave for school every morning.

“There’s a new family that’s moved in now and although they’re happy to have the flowers there it would be good to have a place where the whole street can come together and remember them for as long as they wish.”

Marcin Zdun, 40, was sentenced to a minimum jail term of 34 years after being found guilty of the murders earlier this month.

During the trial at Winchester Crown Court, the jury heard from neighbours and workmen who witnessed the horrific attack on the Wessex Care worker and Wiltshire College student and intervened to rescue Aneta’s younger children who too witnessed her mum and eldest sister being killed.

Mr Pratt, 27, was one of them.

The memorial, he says, would be a place where “people can sit and enjoy remembering [Aneta and Nikoleta] for who they were, not remember them as the Wessex Road murder victims”.

The funds raised so far, £765, may be used to install two benches in The Secret Garden and Laverstock park which the pair would often visit.

A spokesperson from Salisbury Community Policing Team, who has backed the fundraiser, said: “The memorial is will give their friends, neighbours, and relatives who may not be able to visit their graves in Poland an opportunity to grieve and remember them.

“The man running the fundraiser was one of the brave members of the public who not only helped to save the two younger children, but also assisted in apprehending the suspect and ensured that police officers got to the victims as quickly as possible.

“As if that wasn’t enough, he now wants to help the people in the community impacted by this tragedy to heal.

“Please consider donating, even a small amount or just sharing the link with others will make a huge difference.”
