A Salisbury Journal reader has praised all those involved in making the city centre look festive in the build up to Christmas 2020.

In a heartfelt letter, the parent writes of children laughing at the entertainment and enjoying the lights, after a dark year because of coronavirus.

Below is the letter in full:

Brilliant and beautiful Christmas

I want to congratulate Salisbury City Council for their brilliant showing in the run up to Christmas.

We had to cancel our holiday, so almost every day I brought my three children into town to enjoy the Christmas lights, markets and the entertainments.

My small children loved the musicians, singers, dancing snowmen, stilt walkers and other things that happened.

One day we met two very magical fairies who were beautiful, then a few days later we met a very funny fairy on a walking Christmas tree, who made my my 8-year-old almost cry with laughter.

The Market Square is very beautiful with the trees all lit up and the colours reflecting of the stone paving.

There was a great atmosphere and the whole family enjoyed themselves.

The band under the poultry cross were a perfect finishing touch on Christmas Eve.

I am so glad we were not in a higher tier and able to enjoy the build up to Christmas as a family.

I hope we can retain this magic for years to come.

Well Done and thank you to everybody concerned.

Yours Merrily,

Ludo Sakiriss
