A MAIN road in Gillingham will be closed for around five nights from tomorrow, to enable carriageway maintenance without causing danger to motorists.

From January 11 vehicles will be prohibited from going along the B3092 New Road from the junction with B3081 Newbury to the junction with Brickyard Lane, in both directions. This is a distance of around 190 metres.

Dorset Council says that the works will include resurfacing the roads.

The authority added the notice is needed “in order to comply with health and safety regulations which require the provision of safe working areas and to minimise the likelihood of danger to highway users”.

ROAD WORKS: Drivers face 21-mile diversion around Dorset due to roadworks on major route

The closure will come into operation between 7pm and 6am every night, with the works anticipated to be finished by January 15.

A signed diversion route will be put in place to enable traffic to travel around the closed section.

Parking restrictions will also be in force. There is chance that drivers going against the temporary parking ban will have their vehicle removed.
