A MAN was found dead at the scene of a flat fire in Shaftesbury.
On Sunday, January 10, at around 11.50pm, Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service (DWFRS) was called to the incident at John Shoobridge Court in Bleke Street.
Four fire crews attended from Shaftesbury, Gillingham and Tisbury and six firefighters wore breathing apparatus and used two hose reel jets and one main jet.
While extinguishing the blaze, firefighters found that a man in the flat had died.
Dorset Police received a report about the property fire shortly after and went to the scene.
Both Dorset Police and DWFRS do not believe the cause of the fire to be suspicious, but police officers are now investigating the incident.
A spokesperson for DWFRS said: “[We were]called to John Shoobridge Court in Bleke Street, Shaftesbury, at 11.50pm on Sunday for a fire in a second floor flat. Sadly, firefighters found that a man in the flat had died.”
A Dorset Police spokesperson added: “The coroner has been notified and enquiries are ongoing to confirm the identity of the man and inform his next of kin. The cause of the fire is not believed to be suspicious.”
