A STALL selling home-made chutneys and jams in Salisbury has raised £5,000 for Wiltshire charity Alzheimer’s Support, Salisbury Cats Protection and Salisbury Cancer Research.
The stall in Rampart Road was the brainchild of Ali Theobald, husband Harry – an Alzheimer’s Support trustee – and their friend Jo Tapper.
Harry harvested produce from his allotment, while Ali and Jo preserved it.
Ali said: “We started off in May hoping to raise £100 for each of the three charities which are close to our hearts and it is amazing that we are now on £5,000 to split three ways and still going strong. The community has been so supportive.”
Harry was employed as a support worker by Alzheimer’s Support for nine years. He supported his parents after his mother was diagnosed with dementia and used the charity’s services at that time.
He said: “The response to the preserve stall was amazing. The quince jelly, pickled onions and orange and whiskey marmalade were especially popular.”
Jo said: “It can be quite challenging at times because we are always either looking for jam jars or something to put in them!”
Babs Harris, Alzheimer’s Support’s CEO said: “We’ve always valued Harry’s contribution as a trustee very highly, now we value his gardening skills too. Ali and Jo’s chutneys and jams are absolutely delicious, so it’s no surprise they have sold so well. We’re very grateful for their hard work and the donation, which will help to support people living with dementia in Salisbury.”
