FIREFIGHTERS from Dorset were called to a crash on the A303 after a vehicle left the road and ended up in a hedge.

Firefighters from Gillingham Fire Station, as well as from Mere and Wincanton Fire Stations, arrived at the A303 Mere Bypass in Wiltshire at around 11.55pm on Wednesday, January 20.

Fire crews found a vehicle had left the road and ended up in a hedge, but its driver was able to free themselves from their crashed car.

The crews made the scene safe for the attendance of other emergency services.

A spokesperson for Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue said: “At 11.59pm we received a call from Wiltshire Police reporting a road traffic collision on the A303 Mere Bypass, with one person reported as being trapped.

“One crew from each of Mere and Gillingham Fire Stations were mobilised, along with a further fire engine from Wincanton Fire Station from Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service.

“Upon arrival, our crew from Mere found that a car had left the road and was in the hedge, although no persons were trapped as the driver was free of the vehicle before their arrival.

“The crews made the scene safe for the attendance of the other emergency services.”
