A Salisbury care home is currently battling a Covid-19 outbreak, it has been confirmed.

The Journal received reports of a number of residents and staff at Willowcroft care home testing positive.

Some accounts claim the outbreak comes after a resident, who later contracted the virus, was allowed to see his family on Christmas Day.

Bosses at the home on Odstock Road have confirmed that they are dealing with an outbreak but didn't specify how many people are affected.

The cause of the outbreak, they say, is "very difficult to determine".

A spokesperson from The Orders of St John Care Trust, which manages the home, said: “It is very difficult to determine the cause of an outbreak. All of our visiting processes are in line with, and in some cases, beyond those set by the Government.

“This includes a COVID-safe visiting room that ensures that visitors do not enter a part of the home used by residents, and testing residents who left the home as well as them isolating on return.”

The spokesperson added that staff are working with Public Health England, Wiltshire Council and the Care Quality Commission to ensure they do "all we can" to tackle the outbreak.

The efforts of staff and the protocols in place are said to have prevented it from worsening.
