A Met Office weather warning for snow and ice has been issued covering the Salisbury area for the next few days.

After Storm Christoph battered parts of Britain this week - including Wiltshire - forecasters had been predicting a dry and cloudy weekend.

That would have been a welcome relief, particularly for those areas in Wales and the North which have suffered from flooding.

But it now seems there will be new risks from snow and ice in the coming days.

Two separate yellow weather warnings have been released by the Met Office for Friday (January 22) and Saturday (January 23), and then Sunday (January 24).

They both warn of an increased risk of accidents, icy roads and transport disruption.

Below we run through each weather warning in turn:

Friday, January 22 and Saturday, January 23

The first warning runs from 4pm today until 10.30am on Saturday and covers most of England.

The Met Office warns us to expect some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, increasing the likelihood of accidents and injuries.

Some roads and railways are likely to be affected by snowfall, with longer journey times by car as well as bus and train services.

Sunday, January 24

A new warning for the south of England kicks in at 3am on Sunday, until 6pm the same day.

The Met Office warning says:

"A band of rain will turn readily to snow as it spreads eastwards leading to possible transport disruption.

"What to expect:

"Some roads and railways likely to be affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services with the potential for some roads to become blocked on higher level routes.

"Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths."
