It’s a snowy Sunday in Salisbury and across the area, as local residents wake up to a thick carpet of the white stuff.

Some managed to capture pictures of snow flurries falling early this morning (January 24).

But others have woken up to a winter wonderland and posted their images to social media.

Photos show dogs enjoying the rare sight, as well as people enjoying the wintry views with a cup of tea.

However it’s not all good news, with the snow posing real challenges for some as the coronavirus lockdown continues.

Ashley Burnett posted on Twitter to warn people of treacherous conditions near the city’s hospital.

She said on Sunday morning: “Road to SDH very difficult to get up due to the snow @SalisburyNHS multiple cars already abandoned. Everyone be careful.”

The hospital has since confirmed the road was cleared on Sunday morning and is now passable and safe.

The Met Office weather forecast for Salisbury says heavy snow on Sunday morning will fade into light snow, and then stop by 11am.

But a yellow weather warning for most of southern England lasts until midnight, with travel disruption likely.

The Met Office warns vehicles could end up stranded on roads, with cancellations likely to rail and air travel.

Rural villages could also become cut off, and there is also a risk of power cuts, as well as drops in mobile phone coverage.

However there will be comfort for many in that due to Covid rules, most people are not allowed out anyway.
