AN AMESBURY man has been banned from driving for a year after being found guilty of drink driving.

Lyubomir Tomov, 34, of Lancelot Way, Amesbury, was found guilty of driving while over the prescribed limit of alcohol at Swindon Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, January 19.

On November 30, 2019, officers were on patrol on Boscombe Road, Amesbury, when they saw an Audi A8 driven by Tomov overtake another vehicle into oncoming traffic.

The car was stopped on Great Amber Way and Tomov "smelt of alcohol" and admitted to having consumed alcohol before driving.

He gave a positive reading when given a road-side test and was arrested.

As well as being disqualified for 12 months, Tomov was given an £800 fine and ordered to pay a victim surcharge and costs at Swindon Magistrate’s Court.

PC Pete Simmonds said: “Driving whilst under the influence of alcohol not only shows a complete disregard for the law but also is incredibly dangerous for fellow road users.

“Not only was Tomov under the influence of alcohol but his manner of driving was a cause for concern and was why we stopped the vehicle.

“Drink driving is one of the fatal four reasons that increases the chances of a collision ending in a serious injury or worse, a fatality.

“We are fully committed to ensuring our roads are kept safe and urge drivers to never take the risk of getting behind the wheel of a vehicle after having a drink, the results could be catastrophic.”
