Vaccinations at City Hall have got off to a "brilliant" start thanks to the efforts of NHS staff, military personnel and volunteers.

Around 200 people have received the first dose of the Oxford/AstraZeneca jab so far today (Tuesday, January 26).

Many of them praised the efforts of all involved, complimenting them on how "well-organised" the site is and how quick they were dealt with.

Fiona Hyett, Operational Director of City Hall vaccination site, said: "All our planning has kind of worked, the way in which we set up the pod in terms of people having their consent done and then flowing through to have their vaccination done has worked brilliantly."

Military personnel have been assisting patients signing all the paperwork as well as carrying out the vaccinations.

Volunteers from the fire service, co-ordinated by disaster response charity RE:ACT, have been welcoming people in, registering their details and directing them around the venue before and after the vaccination.

Leading Hand Megan Muirhead of the Queen Alexandra Royal Naval Nursing Service said: “It is something really positive that we have been able to come and support the NHS’s mission to deliver vaccinations to the people here in Salisbury.

“It also feels good to be working alongside the community volunteers and NHS staff who are working so hard and successfully to achieve the goal, and I feel privileged to be a small part of that.”

The large-scale site has been operating at half capacity but another pod is being set up for use when demand increases.
