A WOMAN was attacked by a road rage driver, after he followed her flashing his lights and gesturing for her to pull over.

Dorset Police is investigating the assault, which took place in Blandford.

The victim, a woman in her 30s, was turning out of the car park at Tesco on Bournemouth Road, when the driver of another car coming down the road slammed on his brakes and beeped his horn.

Police say the woman carried on driving, but the man followed behind flashing his headlights and signalling for her to pull over.

When she stopped in Vale Park, off Bournemouth Road, both drivers got out of their cars.

At this point, police say, the man pushed the victim into her car and "pushed her face".

She sustained a cut lip during the assault, which did not require hospital treatment.

Police Constable Nick May of Dorset Police said: “An investigation is underway into this incident and I have been carrying out a number of enquiries so far, including CCTV checks in the area.

“I am appealing to anyone who saw either the incident outside Tesco or in Vale Park involving a silver Ford Focus and a silver Vauxhall Astra to please get in touch.”

PC May is also appealing for relevant dashcam footage from motorists, who were travelling in the area at the time of the incident, unfolding between 3.25 and 3.35pm on Wednesday, February 3.
