A DRIVER who failed to provide a breath sample to police after being involved in a crash in East Dorset has been handed a suspended sentence.

Dennis Harry Brian Hough admitted offences of failing to provide a specimen at Bournemouth Police Station and driving without due care and attention in Black Hill, Verwood, on July 5, last year.

Hough, aged 34 and of Beaufort Road, Bournemouth, had been at the wheel of a Volkswagen Golf, which was involved in a crash with a Aprilia motorcycle shortly before 8am.

Dorset Police said the motorcyclist, a local man aged in his 60s, was taken to hospital for treatment to serious injuries.

Appearing before magistrates in Poole on Wednesday, February 3, Hough pleaded guilty to both charges.

The bench committed him to prison for 12 weeks, suspended for 12 months, with a requirement to complete 100 hours of unpaid work and 10 days of rehabilitation activity requirement.

The defendant was also disqualified from holding or obtaining a driving licence for 30 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £95 surcharge.
