Three men on a 400-mile round journey to Devon have been fined for breaching lockdown rules after being stopped near Amesbury.

The trio, aged 22, 36 and 64, were stopped on the A303 and found to be travelling to visit a friend in Devon.

Officers stopped the vehicle on the eastbound carriageway in the early hours of Thursday (February 18) due to concerns about the manner of driving.

They found three men from two different households who were driving back from a trip from their homes in Ilford to visit a friend in Devon.

As they had no reasonable excuse for being outside, they were found to have breached the lockdown restrictions and were all issued with £200 fines.

A spokesperson from Wiltshire Police said: "Please remember that despite last night’s announcement from the Government, the current lockdown restrictions remain in place."
