The rollout of the Covid vaccine in south Wiltshire has reached another milestone.

At the weekend, it was revealed that staff and volunteers at the large-scale site at City Hall had administered 10,000 jabs.

Today (February 25), the NHS confirmed that GP practices in the Sarum West Primary Care Network, which are overseeing the rollout at Wilton's Michael Herbert Hall, have also delivered their 10,000th vaccine.

For a patch of 420 square miles with an older than average population, it's a "fantastic" achievement.

Dr Fiona Dawe, Clinical Director of the Sarum West Primary Care Network, said: "It is immensely rewarding to be involved in the vaccination campaign, our staff and volunteers have worked incredibly hard to reach this fantastic milestone.

"Our patch is 420 square miles of rural countryside with a higher than average older population and this has created a number of difficulties.

"But the team across all seven GP practices have risen to every challenge to get the vaccine into people's arms."

Salisbury Journal:

The GP practices involved in this rollout are Wilton, Mere, Hindon, Tisbury, Sixpenny Handley, Orchard Partnership and Courtyard surgeries.

The 10,000 jabs were administered at Michael Herbert Hall but also in care homes and in the homes of those who are housebound.

Although the achievement is a major boost for all involved, Dr Dawe says there is still "a long way to go" before the whole community is protected.

"We are all working as fast as is safely possible and ask that residents continue to be patient and please accept the jab when it’s offered," she added.

"We understand that people are keen to be vaccinated but please don’t call your GP to ask for an appointment they will contact you when it’s your turn.

"In the meantime everyone including those that have been vaccinated should continue to adhere to all the guidance and wear a facecovering, keep their distance and regularly wash their hands."

NHS staff in Wilton are currently focusing on the clinically extremely vulnerable.

However, they are still working their way through their patients list by age group.
