Part of the existing Shell garage at Bere Regis is to be demolished and the site redeveloped.

The proposals include a new sales building, canopy and jet wash, with the addition of electric vehicle charge points.

Extra car parking spaces will also be provided and the site landscaped.

The application to Dorset Council asks for a 50 per cent increase in the sales area, says the company will provide 13 parking bays and two electric vehicle charge points.

Car care facilities, including a relocated vacuum and air/water bays are to be provided along the eastern boundary of the site. A jet wash is proposed to the west of the sales building and the existing car wash will be removed.

The forecourt, apart from a new canopy, remains largely unchanged.

Bere Regis parish council has objected to the proposals claiming that the decision to move the HGV pumps closer to the front of the site could result in lorries queuing on the access road, blocking the site for other users.

Parish councillors say they would also welcome better white lining on the exit route and bollards on the pavement opposite the garage to improve safety for walkers.
