A pub near Salisbury has left villagers scratching their heads when daffodils planted on a nearby grass bank spelled the word ‘Sandford’ instead of ‘Landford’.

The Landford Poacher asked gardeners to plant the yellow flowers back in October but as it later turned out, the letter S was used instead of the L.

Sandford is a fictitious town in the movie Hot Fuzz starring Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

Roy Porter, manager of the Landford Poacher, said: "Initially a lot of people didn’t get the joke but they have now watched the film and they get it.

"In these times it's just something funny and it appears to have taken off.

"The response has just been amazing, everyone sees the funny side."

Since pictures of the display were shared on Facebook, the Sandford daffodils have become the talk of the village, with people stopping to take pictures and enquire about it.

Wiltshire Police officers have also stopped by while carrying out patrols for "the greater good" commenting on the fact they didn't see any swans.

The Landford Poacher will reopen outdoors on April 12.
