PLANS have been submitted for a new Lebanese hot food takeaway in the city centre.

The proposal is for 72 New Canal, which was previously occupied by an East European grocery shop, but it has been vacant since September 2018.

The planning statement says: "The applications wish to establish a fast food outlet specialising in Lebanese food - this will be solely a take-away facility with no seating within the unit."

The application also states that the proposed works include alterations to a Grade II Listed building, both interior and exterior.

The front to New Canal is a late 18th century or early 19th century warehouse of three storeys.

The planning statement adds: "The property fronts New Canal, Salisbury, and is restricted to the ground floor shop unit only, but it is necessary to involve areas which are outside of the shop unit for extract duct work located in service and escape passage serving 59 Silver Street, and fire escape route from the roof of adjacent properties."

The applicants maintain there will be no alterations to the façade, or any structural alterations internally, other than the extension of a stud wall to provide secure storage.
