The large-scale vaccination site at City Hall is to close temporarily next month due to a shortage of jabs.

The site, which had recently doubled its capacity, will be shut between April 1 and April 11.

It comes after a series of delays affecting the supply of the vaccines in the UK were annouced last week.

The NHS says that those who were due to be vaccinated on one of the affected days will be contacted and offered an alternative appointment "at the earliest possible date".

However, it is not currently possible to book new appoinments.

Appointments for those due to receive their second dose will go ahead once the site reopens on April 12.

Closure 'will not slow us down'

The news of the temporary closure has been confirmed by Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire CCG.

Gill May, Director of Nursing and Quality, said: “We always knew that the vaccination rollout would require us to be flexible, and this is just one way in which we are adapting our current way of working.

“We have made already made excellent progress in providing the vaccine to half our adult population, and are confident that this temporary pause will not slow us down in meeting the government’s target of offering the vaccine to all over 18s by the end of July.”

Bath Racecourse, the region's second large-scale site, will also shut for one week from Sunday April 4.

It will also be closed on Friday April 16, and will be closing early on April 1, April 2, April 3, April 12, April 13 and April 14.

Second doses of the coronavirus vaccine will resume after the temporary closure, and will be available throughout all of April at other vaccine sites, such as those led by GP practices.
