THERE is "no cause for concern" despite some Wiltshire residents receiving bottled water, after concerns about a "a slightly higher taste of chlorine in their tap water", according to Wessex Water.

Wessex Water has moved to reassure the public as it carries out work on the water supply network around Newton Tony and Allington.

Residents have complained of a change in both taste and smell in their water.

Several complaints can also be seen on the public Porton, Idmiston and Gomeldon Forum Facebook group.

The company is “flushing” water mains in the area after some people reported a slightly higher taste of chlorine in their tap water.

'No cause for concern'

Wessex Water said in a statement: "There is no cause for concern, but local people will see some activity in the area as engineers from the company carry out work to resolve the problem as quickly as possible."

Paul Damon, director of water supply, said: “We’re sorry to those customers who may be experiencing tap water with an unusual taste.

“We are the flushing water mains in the area which will help to resolve the problem.”

Wessex Water added that the taste of the water may improve by running the cold kitchen tap for 30-40 minutes.

Customers on a water meter can claim an allowance for this.

Those receiving bottled water have asked for it from the company and this is a temporary measure, Wessex Water added.
