THIS year’s Frogham Fair will not be going ahead, organisers have confirmed.

The event was due to take place on June 26 after it was halted last year due to the pandemic.

A statement posted on the event’s Facebook page said: "Sadly, we have taken the decision to cancel the fair planned for 26 June this year.

"We always knew that there would be Covid related difficulties this year but we hoped that they would recede much sooner than they have.

"Although the government announced that lockdown would end on 21st June “at the earliest”, this was before the latest coronavirus variants emerged and there is no guarantee that lockdown might not be extended.

"It’s also apparent that the vaccination scheme will not be completed, and a lot of people will not have full protection. We are aware that this would affect both the willingness and safety of our volunteers and the number of visitors.

"It seems very likely that some social distancing would still be required, but the practicalities of devising, and then supervising, acceptable social distancing measures would be at odds with the nature of the fair.

"We are very disappointed not to be running the fair, both as a community event and in terms of raising funds to support local charities and good causes but are looking forward to welcoming everyone back next year."

Organisers said they were discussing the 2022 venue and dates.
