COLOURFUL bunting has returned to the heart of Salisbury to "bring a little cheer", as we begin to move out of the Covid-19 lockdown.

Once it has all been hung, around 4.5 kilometres of bunting will be decorating the city centre, funded by Salisbury Business Improvement District (BID), Salisbury City Council and the Old George Mall.

From today, March 29, lockdown restrictions have relaxed enough so people can meet outdoors in groups of six, as well as enabling the return of some outdoor sport.

With the change in lockdown rules, the dressing has been put up to welcome residents and visitors back to the city, in addition to the BID city ranger Andy Milton and the city council street scene team cleaning and repairing signage, tidying planters ready for summer flowers and pressure washing all pavements.

Work is also underway for a piece of artwork for the high street, with the BID confirming more details will be revealed soon.

Susi Mason, a Salisbury BID director and chairperson of the city’s vibrancy partnership, said: “Salisbury is a beautiful city and we are very lucky to live and work here, but the bunting brings a little extra vibrancy which is much needed this year.

"I have already heard that one business owner has said that her spirits had been ‘lifted’ by it, proving it does really make a difference.”

Dan Collins, Salisbury BID business manager, added: “We want to support shops and other businesses as we head out of lockdown, and when allowed, show Salisbury is open and welcoming.

"Salisbury BID is focusing on work that brings vitality and enthusiasm to the city centre, and we hope the bunting does just that, as well as bring a little cheer.”
