MORE than 60 firefighters battled a heathland fire at White Sheet Plantation near Wimborne.
The fire was reported to Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service at around 4.50pm yesterday (Monday, April 5), who said it was spreading quickly due to the dry and windy conditions.
At 8pm, There were fire crews from Wimborne (two), Ferndown, Poole (two), Swanage, Verwood, Christchurch, Sturminster Newton, Blandford and Redhill Park, together with 4×4 appliances from Wimborne, Ferndown and Ringwood; water carriers from Ringwood and Poole; a support appliance from Hamworthy; and the Unimog from Wareham.
One crew with a 4x4 vehicle from Christchurch are currently at the incident scene damping down hotspots.
