Has anyone had it tougher than 999 workers in the past year?

There's no such thing as an ordinary day at work when you're in the police, ambulance service or part of a fire crew.

You're always at risk, always responding to danger or situations many of us would avoid.

But with the arrival of Covid, every day has become a crisis.

While the majority of people have been able to hibernate at home, emergency service workers have to keep going in, even when that means staying apart from family to keep them safe, or risking falling ill themselves to help others.

If you were lucky enough for a 999 worker to help you, you may have said thank you as much as you could. You may have been too unwell to do so.

Sometimes, though, you may feel a grander gesture is needed to recognise the difference they made to your life, or the life of someone you care for.

That's where the South Wiltshire Hero Awards come in.

MORE - Nominate your South Wiltshire Heroes

There are six great reasons why you should think about nominating someone who has helped you in an emergency for recognition in our South Wiltshire Hero Awards 2021:

1 - They are on the frontline 24/7

Those in the 999-service put themselves in the frontline every day.

2 - They put others first routinely

They thought of you or someone you know first without concern for themselves.

3 - They don't walk away

They came to your aid when others may have walked by.

4 - Sometimes ordinary thank yous are not enough

There should be a special thank you for any young person who has shown great bravery.

5 - They make you proud

You are just so proud of them because they are your son, daughter, brother, sister, mother or father.

6 - You could win big just for nominating

You could win £100 worth of shopping vouchers in our prize draw - everyone who nominates someone is in with a chance.

Our thanks go to @MiPermit as our headline sponsor and to Emergency Award sponsors Bond Dental Clinic @Soldierscharity @TakeawaySaffron.
