An eco-conscious seven-year-old boy has walked eight miles from Downton to Salisbury to litter pick in aid of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.

Jonah Babb completed the walk with his mum Lucy Babb, 39, on Saturday March 27 raising more than £850 and collecting three full bags of rubbish.

His interest in the environment started last year when he joined Downton CE Primary School’s Eco Council and signed up to become a member of Wiltshire Wildlife Trust.

“His grandparents talk to him a lot about wildlife and he spends a lot of time in the garden looking at insects,” Lucy said.

“He’s quite inquisitive, he always asks a lot of questions and he loves animals, especially dogs.”

During lockdown, Jonah has been litter picking in Downton and when he decided to walk to Salisbury, litter picking along the way to support a good cause made perfect sense.

“He’s very, very proud of himself,” his mum added.

“He did find it a challenge, he was quite tired but he never thought about stopping.”
