Four new test collection sites will be opening in Wiltshire today (April 14), the council has confirmed.

As part of the Government's rollout of free lateral flow tests for anyone in England, Wiltshire Council has set up more sites to allow people to collect home testing kits.

The recommendation is for everyone to take a test twice a week to identify asymptomatic cases of coronavirus which would otherwise go undetected.

Individuals displaying Covid symptoms should self-isolate and take a lab-processed PCR test instead.

The new collection sites opening from today are:

  • Springfield Community Campus in Corsham
  • Calne Leisure Centre
  • The Veil Community Campus in Pewsey
  • The Nadder Centre in Tisbury

Booking is not required - anyone wanting to pick up LFD for themselves and their household can simply turn up.

The sites already up and running are:

  • Devizes Leisure Centre (also doing in-person testing)
  • The reception at Monkton park in Chippenham
  • The reception at Bourne Hill in Salisbury

However, stocks at Devizes and Salisbury are running low and people are encouraged to visit other sites or order them online through the Government's website.

Towards the end of the month, Wiltshire Council hopes to open more of sites to bring the total to 10.

Kate Blackburn, Wiltshire's public health director, said: "Alongside the rollout of the vaccine, regular testing is an essential part of the easing of restrictions, helping identifying variants and stopping individual cases from becoming outbreaks.

"With one in three people with coronavirus showing no symptoms and potentially spreading it without knowing, rapid lateral flow tests are one of the tools we have in helping to identify cases of coronavirus we would otherwise not find."

Anyone who receives a positive lateral flow test must self-isolate and book a confirmatory PCR.
