THE City Hall is to be used as a Covid-19 vaccination clinic until "at least the autumn", it has been confirmed.

Following the Prime Minister's lockdown road map announcement back in February, event organisers have started revealing plans and dates for upcoming shows and tours.

With some UK concerts and festivals planned for as soon as the end of June it begs the question - when will Salisbury's City Hall reopen as a live entertainment venue?

While no reopening date has been confirmed, Wiltshire Council says it will be discussing plans further after the local elections, which are taking place this week.

Terence Herbert, Wiltshire Council chief executive, said: “The City Hall is currently being used as a Covid-19 vaccination centre and that will be the case until at least the autumn and maybe beyond that.

"Discussions to reopen it as an entertainment venue when the time is right are continuing and this will progress after the local elections.”

Before the site was transformed into a vaccination centre, the council confirmed to the Journal the closure of the venue, as an entertainment hub, would be temporary, which could reopen when the industry "is on a surer footing".

Meanwhile daily appointments at Salisbury's large-scale vaccination site are doubling this week, as more doses of the vaccine are available.

Now that supply has increased, more than 1,000 appointments are being booked in every day.

People over the age of 40 are now being invited to book an appointment through the national booking system.

This allows anyone currently eligible to be inoculated to book a slot at one of the vaccine sites available, including the site on Malthouse Lane.
