FROM Pokémon to super heroes, “geeky and premium” products are what you can find in one of the latest additions to Salisbury’s high street.

Sonner Toys opened its doors in the Old George Mall around the end of November last year, offering pop culture fanatics the chance to buy collectibles both general and rare.

Already with an outlet in Portsmouth, the Salisbury store was set to open around the middle of last year, after plans hatched in December 2019, but this was halted due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

After around four months of business however, the shop is now keen to reach out to more comic, gaming and film enthusiasts.

“We found that Salisbury is one of the geekiest cities, but in this area there was nothing for that so it was a gap in the market,” said store coordinator Macauly Cairns.

Describing the store as “geeky, premium and knowledgeable”, Macauly added: “Lots of people have been popping in, our location is of huge benefit in the middle of the city centre, people see us and want to come have a look.

“We’re something that’s a bit new and different and we’re hopeful we can get more people in, which will help boost the high street and business for other shops too.”

Sonner Toys started as a website back in 2015, and Macauly said the business, overseen by managing director Harry Stevens, is “getting bigger and bigger”.

He added: “We know all about the products, people could come in and just have a chat if they wanted to. We’re offering something that hasn’t been in Salisbury before.”

Funko, Hot Toys and Hasbro are just some of the products on offer, with life-size figures retailing at around £1,000. Smaller models usually have a starting price of around £260.

As well as a shop, taking pride in exclusive products sourced from all over the world, the space doubles up as a showroom, with figures and merchandise displayed in special cabinets.

Once the Covid-19 pandemic is a thing of the past, Sonner Toys in Salisbury is looking forward to returning to events across the UK with its stalls, including Comic-Cons, as well as hosting games nights and cards nights in-store.

“We’d love to do this, there seems to be an interest in Pokémon and cards in Salisbury, so it would be great to offer this kind of thing as well,” Macauly added.
