A MAN has been jailed after exposing himself to women as they walked alone in Fordingbridge.

Robert Wayne Oakley, of Lyon Street, Southampton, was found guilty of two counts of indecent exposure.

The incidents happened in January last year in close proximity to Frog Lane, Fordingbridge.

On Monday, April 12 a jury heard how Oakley had been seen to expose his genitals to women as they walked alone in the semi-rural location.

Oakley was found guilty of these offences after a three-day day trial at Southampton Crown Court.

He was sentenced to six months in prison today (Tuesday, May 11).

The defendant was also ordered to sign the Sex Offenders Register for seven years and handed a five year restraining order.

Following the sentencing, PC Sarah Taylor of the Fordingbridge Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “In imposing a custodial sentence, the court has acknowledged the severity of the offences, the impact on the victims and the community as a whole.

"I want to thank those who felt able to speak to police about the incidents, for coming forward and playing a vital role in securing the conviction.

“His actions placed the women in a situation where they felt frightened and disempowered. No one should be made to feel this way and we hope that this sentence provides some closure to the victims and the community.”
