MORE than 230 packets of biscuits donated by generous shoppers in Trowbridge have been delivered to the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

The 234 packets were collected by the Tesco superstore in County Way after an appeal by Audrey Griffiths.

Mrs Griffiths, 84, had asked the store to help after finding that RUH staff love having a biscuit on their tea and coffee breaks.

She said: "The staff were overwhelmed. They were like bees round a honeypot. They were so grateful."

Mrs Griffiths, of Longfield Road, delivered the biscuits with help from Tesco's Trowbridge community champion Maria Asquith.

Maria said: "Tesco customers really got behind this appeal, and their kindness and generosity generated 234 packets of biscuits; the donation trolley was overflowing.

"We met with Mr Gavin Jennings, Audrey's consultant, who was absolutely delighted with the biscuits."

"He wanted to say thank you to everyone who contributed and that it's always nice to be appreciated by patients.

"The nurses in the department heard about Audrey's appeal, and wanted to have a photo taken with her too.

"They were all so grateful and joked that the biscuits will keep them going for a few days."
