A FREE creative writing project for over 65s is being launched by Forest Forge Theatre Company in Ringwood.

The Postal Project has been made possible thanks to funding from Hampshire County Council’s Local Solutions Fund.

Starting this month and running for six months, the theatre company will send a free pack each month to those signed up with all the materials they need to start writing.

The packs will be inspired by the 40-year-old theatre’s large working archive of props and costumes.

Each monthly pack will contain things to see, touch, listen to, smell and taste; writing warm-up exercises and hints and tips about different types of writing and styles.

Lucy Phillips, Creative Learning Director at Forest Forge Theatre, said: "We are passionate about stories and love encouraging people to write their own.

"Although the world is slowly emerging, we know there is still isolation and uncertainty to come, and we also know that creativity is an excellent way of relieving stress, giving purpose and enjoying expressing yourself. And shouldn’t be exclusively an activity for children."

The project will also collaborate with radio station, Forest FM, who will provide the ‘listen to’ element of the pack for those without a streaming service.

Local artist Katheryn Coyle of Little Red Boots will be supplying a colouring sheet.
