With cases linked to the Delta variant continuing to rise, there are fears the end of all restrictions may come later than we'd hope.

The last stage of the roadmap, which would see all limits on social contact become a thing of the past, is currently planned for June 21.

A decision on whether or not that will happen is expected to be taken next week.

While the freedoms we're currently enjoying might be enough for some, a delay to the last step of lockdown easing would impact a number of businesses and events right here in Salisbury and Wiltshire.

Let's start with nightclubs.

The Chapel in Salisbury is one of the establishments that could be affected by a delay to the so-called 'freedom day'.

That's because nightclubs across the country have been closed since the very start of the pandemic.

Speaking to the Journal last month, co-owner Amanda Newbery said she had "many plans" for the reopening but stressed she wouldn't find out whether that would actually go ahead until the week before.

Since then, Amanda has launched a new hospitality venue on Brown Street, offering live music, food and drinks.

Larger events could also be impacted by a potential delay.

This year's Summer Solstice at Stonehenge is one of them.

A message on the English Heritage website says: "Many will have noticed that the date coincides with that identified in the Government’s re-opening roadmap for England as Step Four - the final stage of ‘un-locking.’

"If that remains the case, we can confirm that solstice celebrations will be going ahead at Stonehenge on the evening of the 20 June into the morning of the 21 June. 

"However, if the guidance changes for England, or indeed for Wiltshire, our plans will need to change."

Regardless of what happens, the sunset and sunrise will be live-streamed for free as the virtual celebrations proved very popular last year.

Finally, couples waiting to get married are also looking at next week's announcement with anticipation. 

Currently up to 30 people are allowed at weddings but the cap could be lifted to allow an unlimited number of guests.

There have been fears this might not happen if lockdown isn't fully eased.

However, reports suggest the Prime Minister could still lfit the 30-person limit even if the roadmap is delayed.
