A POPULAR visitor to Salisbury has made a welcome return this week! Gilbert the flower dragon has taken up residence at Salisbury Market Place and officially marks the start of summer in the City.

The flower dragon is maintained by Salisbury City Council and has attracted large amounts of attention from visitors and residents of Salisbury since he first appeared in 1999.

Gilbert was unable to return last year due to the pandemic but the team at Salisbury City Council are delighted to see him back.

Standing approximately 8 foot tall and weighing 1.5 tonnes, Gilbert’s body is made up of a wide variety of colourful bedding plants.

Salisbury City Council has once again installed summer planting across the City, including flowers towers, hanging baskets and railing planters.

There are nearly 400 hanging baskets in total that have been purchased by the Council and local businesses to display on their shops, pubs and offices across the City.
